Territory, yoga and sustainable development

A fine example of a yogic partnership, rooted in the territory

Created in 1841, Saint Joseph Strasbourg is the oldest association in the local territory, its initial ambition was to promote access to culture and sport. Today, the association has focused its action on sport and has a magnificent hall that it makes available to the general public. Because of its social vocation, the association contributes to the generalization of physical and sporting activity, by offering attractive financial conditions for the greatest number of people.

A word from the President: François Schneider

“After the construction of our room on rue Saint Urbain in Strasbourg, we sought to develop our own activities there. Our “maintenance” gymnastics section had already evolved towards the practice of yoga, but very gentle given the average age of the participants. Very quickly the need to offer a real yoga activity appeared. The first two facilitators of this activity stopped for family reasons and Marion VALENCE, who had already provided some replacement sessions, was approved by the students to ensure continuity.

That’s how we “discovered” Marion. Since then with a real pleasure we collaborate with her to lead the sessions to the satisfaction of all and especially of our association which proposes an activity “at the top”. Moreover, given her training and integrity, it is with the greatest confidence that we leave her the full initiative in organizing the evolution of the sessions to ensure a real progress of the participants.

Full of initiatives, Marion organizes workshops on well-defined themes in our offices in addition to the weekly sessions.

My feedback to Saint Joseph

For the second year in a row I have the pleasure of teaching there, my friend Jennifer Will indeed offered me to resume her course last year and since then I rejoice every Friday. For the past 2 or 3 years, a group of students composed of about 30 people have been practicing “active” yoga once a week, with a single teacher… In view of their growing interest in yoga, when I arrived I suggested that they slightly increase the duration of the class from 1 hour to 1h15mn. The idea was to have a little more time to get to know each other and discover other aspects of the practice.

During my professional life, I have developed an expertise in collaborative management and naturally participate in the co-construction of projects. For optimal functioning, it is a question of setting up a flexible and evolving framework in which everyone can express themselves, propose, exchange and then let new ideas emerge. As a teacher, I ensure the regulation of the group and above all I commit myself to my students to carry out the actions decided together. And of course, I expect the same from them in return…

On the way and with the support of the association, we successfully tested some in-depth workshops by opening them up to the outside world to enrich the group of students, contribute to the notoriety of the association and of course to mine. By the end of the summer, all these exchanges had fostered synergies and we didn’t want to stop classes. As the room was not available during the summer period, we practiced all summer long at Parc de la Citadelle and these were very beautiful moments of sharing.

Joy, sweat and friendship

Little by little, friendships have been forged, many laughter and smiles are added to each class, it is a real pleasure to meet again every Friday! Serendipity is a concept that is really close to my heart: to let things flourish by themselves, with minimal anticipation, by gratefully accepting what life offers us. What I learned from my years as a project manager: finding the right balance between our need for control and the space of freedom necessary for life’s surprises.

This year, we decided to multiply the workshops to do one per month: Sunday, September 8, the theme chosen was hand support postures.

Stephanie follows my classes twice a week.
Here she works on her hip opening because her wrists were weak that day.
Clementine also follows my classes twice a week, here she enters the posture of the 8 angles. At the end of the workshop she arrived there for the first time, the picture was taken just before…

Come and meet this wonderful group of students, participate in a meaningful process and do good to your body!

Next workshop: Sunday, October 6, inversion postures https://www.pollenoyoga.com/ateliers-retraites/
